Don't Forget The Magic

Neil Gaiman via Facebook
Magic and Dreams. Whether you appreciate or dislike Mr. Gaiman's work (I happen to love just about everything he's concocted), you have to admit this is a wonderful New Year's Wish. Especially if you are a writer. Don't forget to read some fine books and get out in the world to experience life as much as you can. Each of us sees and interprets in our own way. Our words are hued by how that memory was stored. Make more memories and you will have a treasure trove of stories to weave.

Appreciate that wordsmithing is alchemy of the highest order. We authors create a Sorcerer's Stone with every book or short story, preserving our voice for future readers:
"Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."
[Hard to argue with Carl Sagan...]

So while you may hope your Muse shows up and touches you on the shoulder with inspiration and drive, my wish for the New Year is for all of us to get our there and fill our inkwells with experiences--wonderful, heart-rending, joyous, sensual, adrenaline-inducing events big and small--to imbue our words to produce Magic.

Prospero Nuevo Año, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda-- in other words, Happy New Year!
